Today, we’ll open the gates for the Necromancy! quest in RS3, an adventure that will introduce you to the Necromancy skill and show you the City of Um for the first time. You will befriend the undead, and at the end, you will rise with the title of Gielinor’s very first Necromancer. This quest will act not only as a tutorial to the skill but also is a key aspect in the quest series, so let’s begin!
Necromancy! Quest Requirements RS3
Before jumping into the RS3 Necromancy quest, you must know this is a Free-to-play quest, which means all players will have access to all the features. It’s a short-length quest, and you should be able to complete it in around 15 to 20 minutes. Thankfully, the only requirement for the Necromancy! quest is the ability to defeat 1 level 3 Ghost Troll Brute and 1 level 3 Ghost Troll Lout. Anything outside that, isn’t a necessity.
Necromancy! Quest Guide RS3
To begin with, the Necromancy! quest, you must first head to the Draynor lodestone, then run north until you find the Underworld Portal and interact with it. Instantly, you will see a floating sword that appears from the portal and will kill you upon Rasial, the First Necromancer’s command. Don’t worry; this is part of the quest and it’s a safe death, so you won’t lose your items.
Life After Death
Once you’re dead, you will arrive at Death’s Office, where you will meet Death, who mentions he didn’t expect you to die and then arrive at his office in this way. Talking with Death, you will explain to him that you were investigating the white portal near Draynor, and you got struck by a floating sword made out of black metal. You will also tell him the sword had glowing green runes carved into the blade. Death will reply, telling you the runes say “anguish” and will also give you instructions on how to travel with him to the Underworld.
After you complete your conversation with the Death, but before you can continue with RS3 Necromancy! quest, a cutscene will trigger to explain that you have been chosen to be Rasial’s next apprentice. You will arrive in the City of Um, and Rasial will greet you upon your arrival and explain his plan to you. He wants to wage war against the mortal world using souls he previously collected. Rasial will explain to you that the dead will outnumber the living soon. He will insist you must learn Necromancy if you want to defeat him and stop his plan. Death won’t have other options to help you with your task.
Rasial will leave, and you will see Lupe and Sostratus appear from the bridge to the city. They are the only two survivors following Rasial draining the Well of Souls. Lupe, Sostratus, and Death conclude that Rasial conducted a communion ritual using his own soul vessel to move the souls to it. Right after the confirmation, Death will summon Malignus Mortifer, your new guide that will help you learn Necromancy, and he will even teach you how to conduct your own ritual to bring souls back to the City of Um.
The Communion Ritual
The next step in your adventure in the Necromancy! quest in RS3 is to follow Malignius Mortifer. He will instruct you to clear away all the nearby Mounds of Dust on the floor; you must interact with them by getting close, clearing four Mounds of Dust in total. You will find one of the mounds located on each side of the ritual site; their location is shown as waypoint arrows should you be confused.
Malignius Mortifer will explain to you how the communion ritual works. First, you must place a focus item on the center pedestal to determine which ritual you will conduct. After doing so, you must draw the required glyphs in the nearby glyph spots. Malignius will also give you some Grubby Bones, which you will use as a focus item. You must get close to the pedestal and select “Place focus”, then select the Makeshift Communion Ritual.
After doing this, you will receive some Basic Ritual Candles, which you have to place on the four pentagon-shaped light source spots surrounding the ritual site. Moreover, you will receive Basic Ghostly Ink, which you must use to draw the required glyphs. Fortunately, you can place the glyphs in any glyph spots, but make sure you use the correct number and type for the ritual. To place the glyphs, you must interact with the spots and draw the Commune I glyph; you must repeat this process on every glyph spot.
Before you complete the glyphs in RS3 Necromancy! quest, you will notice Malignius will tell you there’s a glyph left from the last ritual that took place at the site. You must clean it up before drawing your glyph and conducting your ritual. He will give you more Basic Ghostly Ink, and you must interact with the broken Elemental I tile to repair it using the three inks you have.
Once you complete all the preparation steps, you will be ready to begin with the ritual. You must select “Start ritual” on the platform you see nearby, and the chanting will begin. When the ritual is complete, you will gain Necromancy experience, and Malignius will tell you he didn’t expect you to get everything right on the first attempt.
Ted & the Well of Souls
After you complete your ritual, it will summon Ted. He will command you to interact with the Well of Souls, which will open an interface that displays the Talent Tree. You must click on Conjure Skeleton Warrior at the bottom; you will also see that it requires a talent point to unlock it. Ted will explain that you must fill the vessel until you gain more power and earn a talent point by proving your worth. To earn the talent point in the Necromancy! quest in RS3 you must gain Combat experience by using Necromancy.
With the help of Sostratus, you will get a Death Guard with the ability to channel necrotic energy into powerful attacks. You must equip the Death Guard and attack a nearby Ghost Troll Brute and Ghost Troll Lout. You must keep using Necromancy attacks on them (you can use auto attacks) until you unlock more abilities. Furthermore, you have a slight chance to critically strike an enemy during your attacks.
After you kill the Trolls, you will have enough Necromancy abilities to gain a talent point. You must then interact with the Well of Souls and you will be able to unlock the Conjure Skeleton Warrior talent.
It’s time to conjure a spirit, but you have to use a Conduit and Ectoplasm. At this point of the Necromancy! quest in RS3, Sostratus will give you a Skull Lantern for your future conjurations. If you want to obtain Ectoplasm, you can perform rituals or talk with the group to receive 25. There you have it, you just successfully completed your indoctrination into the Necromancy skill, and completed your first quest in the underworld!
