RS3 Requirements Big Chompy Bird Hunting
The Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest, like most of the missions in this video game, presents a series of particular requirements that must be met to carry it out. Before listing those requirements, it is essential to note that this quest is for members only and that its official length is medium. In this sense, it is possible that you can finish it in approximately 30 minutes or less.
These are the three main requirements you need to start the mission:
- 30 Cooking
- 30 Ranged
- 5 Fletching
In addition, you will be required to complete a set of items throughout the quest. Some of them can be obtained during its development. However, if you take them with you beforehand, you will be able to complete the quest in less time than expected. Let's see the items:
- 100 feathers (25 can be purchased during the quest for 50 gold pieces)
- Between 4 and 6 wolf bones (can be obtained during the quest by killing wolves)
- Between 4 and 6 achey tree logs (can be obtained during the quest by chopping down achey trees)
Once you know what skills and items will be required, you are ready to delve into the Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest. The lands of the ogres await you!
RS3 Walkthrough Big Chompy Bird Hunting
The starting location of the Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest is in Feldip Hills, more precisely in the northeastern portion of this area. There are many ways to get to this part of Feldip Hills, and it will be much easier if you have some methods of teleportation to certain places unlocked or certain spells available, such as Gnome glider (to Lemantolly Undri) or Home teleport (to Yanille or Oo'glog lodestone).
Once you have arrived northeast of Feldip Hills, you must look for the classic blue mission icon on the minimap. This will be located near the coast and positioned above Rantz, a hungry ogre NPC. Talk to Rantz, and he will tell you: “Hey, you creature! Make me some stabbers! I wanna hunt da chompy?”. To translate Rantz: when he says “stabbers,” he refers to what would later be called “ogre arrows,” and “chompy” is a kind of native bird that, when roasted, becomes a delicacy for the ogres. So, Rantz is asking you for help hunting those birds. If you meet the skill requirements and agree to “make some stabbers,” the quest will begin.
Making some “stabbers”: the ogre arrows
So, the Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest has started. It is essential to clarify that the only ogre arrows that Rantz will accept will be those you made during the quest. If you offer him ogre arrows obtained by other means, he will tell you: “Hey, deese stabbers no good... did you make dem you's self? You go make dem stabbers for me creature! Don't get old ones or from other creatures.” Likewise, Kantz requires six ogre arrows. Do not bring him less than six because he will reject them. Also, for the final hunting, you must have some arrows for yourself. That is why it is advisable to make some extra ones.
Like any arrow, the ogre arrows are composed of three elements: arrowheads, arrow shafts, and feathers. Therefore, for this quest, you must collect all three elements. Let's see how to get each of them.
Firstly, you must craft the arrow shafts. The arrow shafts you need are made from achey trees. Use your hatchet to chop down some achey trees and get their logs. Then, use your knife to craft the ogre arrow shafts. Remember that from each achey log, you could obtain a total of four ogre arrow shafts. Considering that you will give six ogre arrows to Rantz at the end of the quest, you must cut at least two achey trees. Here, we recommend cutting down between four and six trees so that you can solve the mission comfortably and have some arrows left over.
Secondly, once you have the ogre arrow shafts, you must create the flighted ogre arrows. To do this, combine the ogre arrow shafts with the feathers. You will need one feather per ogre arrow shaft. If you did not include feathers in your inventory or backpack when starting the quest, it is possible to purchase them during it. For this purpose, enter the cave north of Rantz and talk to Fycie, Rantz's daughter. She will offer to sell you 25 feathers for 50 gold pieces.
Finalizing with the RS3 Requirements Big Chompy Bird Hunting, you must craft the arrowheads. In this case, they are very particular arrowheads that are made from the bones of wolves. If you move southwest of Rantz's position, you will see that there is a depression in the terrain, and there are several level 11 wolves around a small swamp. Kill some wolves to get their bones: each wolf gives you one wolf bone. Again, and as in the case of the achey trees, the minimum number of wolves you will need to kill is two, but it is recommended that you kill between four and six. Once you have the bones, use the chisel to create wolf bone arrowheads: for each wolf bone, you get four wolf bone arrowheads.
You made it! You already have all the elements! The only thing left is to combine the wolf bone arrowheads with the flighted ogre arrows, and you will obtain the long-awaited ogre arrows, which are crucial to success in the Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest. Do it and go back and talk to Rantz. Rantz will thank you for the arrows, take six of them, and tell you that now it is necessary to use "fatsy toadies" as bait to attract the chompy birds. Finish all five dialogue options to continue the quest and to comprehend that Rantz's children are the key to understanding how to make the bait.
“Fatsy toadies”: the bait
Once you finish the talk with Rantz, head to the cave that is located a few meters to the north. Enter, and you will find Fycie and Bugs, Rantz's children. Talk to them, and they will tell you the method they use to inflate toads: they use an ogre bellows filled with swamp gas. The bellows ogre is found inside a chest in the cave at the northwest corner. Approach the chest, push the rock that blocks it, and search inside; the ogre bellows will be there. Take it and head outside the cave.
Outside again, return to the sector where you eliminated the wolves. More precisely, approach the small swamp, and you will find several toads around. You will see that the swamp is bubbling: that is the swamp gas that Fycie and Bugs mentioned. Use the ogre bellows on the bubbles in the swamp to fill it with its gas. Now, use the ogre bellows to inflate toads. With one gas charge from the ogre below, you can inflate three toads. Additionally, the maximum number of inflated toads you can carry in your inventory is also three. Head back to Rantz, bringing him the promised “fatsy toadies.”
Chompy birds: the hunt
Return to Rantz and talk to him. He will congratulate you on the quality of the inflated toads you are carrying, and he will tell you that now it is necessary to place them as bait to attract the chompy birds, which are the prime objective in Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest. A flashing yellow arrow will appear on the minimap: approach it and drop a bloated toad at that position. Tell Rantz that you planted the bait. Now, you must wait for a chompy to be attracted to the bait. You must be far enough away so that the chompy does not get scared by your presence but also close enough to be able to see it and have it in shooting range. It's a question of balance. If a considerable amount of time passes and the chompy does not appear, the bait will disappear. In this case, you must put the bait back in the indicated place. Remember that you have three bloated toads, and if you run out of them, you will have to return to the swamp for more.
Finally, the chompy bird appeared! Now, it's time to take action. Rantz will be the one to try first. However, he will fail and will not be able to kill the chompy. If you talk to him, he will make some excuses about his failure. Insist that you are capable of achieving it, and he will agree to give you an ogre bow.
Equip the ogre bow with the ogre arrows and attack the chompy. If you miss or the chompy escapes, rebait to attract another bird. Once you kill the chompy bird, approach its corpse and pluck it. You will get feathers, bones, and, most importantly for this quest, a raw chompy. Bring the raw chompy to Rantz. He will entrust you with the last part of the mission. Now you will become a chef! And you are only one step away from completing the Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest.
Cooking chompy birds
Staying on track with this RS3 walkthrough Big Chompy Bird Hunting, you will encounter Rantz, who will tell you that you can cook the chompy in the ogre spit roast in front of the cave. To complete the recipe, the chompy must be accompanied by three different ingredients that Rantz, Fycie, and Bugs will choose. To know which ingredient each one wants, you will have to talk to all three. The ingredients requested are not the same for all players. However, the possible ingredients are limited to the following six options: onion, doogle leaf, tomato, cabbage, equa leaf, and potato.
Where can you find each of them? Here, we guide you a little. Most of the ingredients can be found west of the small swamp where the toads live:
- Onion: They are near a campfire; remember that they grow underground so that you will see the sprouts showing on the surface of the earth.
- Tomato: you find it near the same campfire, on a stool.
- Cabbage: on the floor, north and east of the onion location
- Doogle leaf: west of the onion location, between the mushrooms.
Meanwhile, the potatoes are located in an area to the west of Rantz and to the north of the onion area. And finally, the equa leaves are located towards the southeast of Rantz, near the place where the toads were placed as bait to hunt the chompy. In this area, it is also possible to find cabbages.
Once you collect the three ingredients that Rantz and his sons asked for, return to the ogre spit roast located in front of the cave. Use the raw chompy in the ogre spit roast. If the three ingredients in your inventory are correct, the cooking process will begin. Once finished, you will get a seasoned chompy. Take it to Rantz, and you will have accomplished the Big Chompy Bird Hunting RS3 quest.
